Today, after buying the truck nearly a year and a half ago, I drove the 90' GMC R2500 for the first time. Long story short, I'm working on having it totally refurbished. So far: new crate motor, radiator, flywheel, starter, pumps, edelbrock intake manifold, belt and hoses, tires, exhaust, re-built front end and a few other things. Lots of new life breathed into it so far but I still have some things to work out.
Noticed all this on the first drive: The Parking brake light stays on; I'm hearing a slight ticking/clicking that tends to match the accelerator (stops when I take foot off the gas); Check engine light came on (will have the guys at O'Riley check on that tomorrow) and at about 65 - 70mph I'm hearing/feeling a vibration that comes and goes about every three to four seconds (new tires breaking in?). Oh, and the cruise control isn't working anymore (it did before the work, gotta check fuses tomorrow). Other than that, it started, shifted and drove just fine. Oil pressure was good as well as temperature and charge rate.
I'm somewhat knowledgeable about cars but I'm no mechanic. I'll be asking the guy who helped me do the work what he's thinking but a second, third or forth opinion would be greatly appreciated. If anyone may have an idea about the cause of the symptoms, please chime in. If you happen to have the same model Suburban, let me know! I'd love to hear how your keeping it running! Thanks!
