Hi, I'm new and was wondering if anyone else had a 2012 Sierra with the so called "special paint". Mine is a 2012 Sierra in Toreador Red crewcab, with the Z-71 package, leather and lots of options. However, the filler panel over the front bumper was painted glossy black at the factory and I can't figure out why they would do that. It looked a bit odd before I bought it but the rest of the truck was beautiful and I figured I'd get used to it,(plus the discounts were pretty good! ) Well it's been 5 months and I still don't like it any better than before. The dealer insists that it's a factory option and they showed me the window sticker that says "special paint" but I think somebody screwed up somewhere and I'm gonna have to spray it to match the rest of the truck as soon as spring rolls around! I guess my question is- does anyone have this same issue?
Thanks!

If you go to the GMC.com website and build your own Sierra 1500, you'll find a "special color" exterior paint available called Mineral Green Metallic. It looks like this and really "pops" in the bright sunlight, much like metalflake on a bass boat. I love it; I bought it.

Special Paint

Thanks for info and pics BigBlue! Sharp truck and color. Do you know why they leave the front panel black? I would think that if they"re charging extra for special paint that it would at least cover the whole truck! I guess I just don't understand the logic behind it. I love my dark metallic red color also, but just wish they finished the job!

Don't know; mine's green. Maybe the black one is what showed up on the assembly line and they just slapped it on. Can't slow down the line for something like that. At least, it was the right year and vehicle. Count your blessings, no matter how small.
