Hey guys, got a question. Yesterday afternoon at noon i had started my 95 GMC Sierra 4x4, 305 V8, with my remote start and everything was fine, truck idled smoothly, i got in it, went to work, etc. Later on shortly before 4 pm i had to go uptown again, so i did the same as last time and started the truck with the remote start while i finished eating. But just as i was almost finished eating i could hear the engine stumble then rev, it did this about 3 times before it stalled altogether.

Wondering what was going on i put my boots on and went to start it manually. Once in the truck i turned the key and she fired right up, so i sat and waited a few seconds and all seemed fine so i went back in the house. Shortly after getting in the house i could hear the engine stumble again then just stall. So put on my jacket and stuff and went to see what was going on, i got in the truck again turned the key and she fired right up. Wondering what the hell was going i decided to sit in the truck and watch it for few minutes, about a minute later the engine started to stumble again so i kept it going feathering the gas. I did this on and off for a couple minutes before i decided to check all the fluids. After a quick check of the fluids, i was looking around under the hood and could clearly hear the engine idling slowly and a little rough. So i closed the hood and hopped in the truck and decided to take it for spin hoping everything would clear up. While driving the truck everything seemed fine, it idled at stops and didn't stall, it had power etc. So when i got uptown i put in park and watched it for a a few minutes, this time nothing. It idled but idled a little rough.

Now, i guess my question is this. We had about 3 months of cold weather, ranging anywhere from -5C to -30C. Then all of a sudden we got this warm spell in the middle of January with some rain and warmer temps about 3C to 6C. Could the issue i was having of been caused by moisture in the gas lines etc..? I did fill the truck some afterwards along with gas line anti-freeze after it happened. And everything seems fine now, just not sure what the issue was. Any insight i greatly appreciated.

The TBI engines were fuel pressure sensitive and a dirty fuel filter are know to cause the issues you have mentioned above. Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter for now and cleaning the Throttle body also would not hurt.

Good luck and keep us posed.

You have stated about the freezing temps, so it is very possible that you water/moisture in the fuel. Most likely still do. in any case, just add something to help break up the water inthe system. Also, as suggested replace your in line fuel filter. It's a cheap investment.

Thanks for the input guys. I used the truck today and it seemed fine, ran great, idled fine, no issues whatsoever. So I'm assuming it was a water/moisture issues and i ran some gas line anti-freeze with some gas so I'm thinking it helped. Will look into replacing the fuel filter and possibly cleaning the throttle body as well. Will keep you posted.

Glad to hear the Sierra is running better, good idea also since your going to be working on the Sierra. Clean the breather screen at the base of your distributor, there is a breather screen for ventilation to help keep moisture from forming.

When the screen gets dirty and the ventilation is no longer there, moisture forms and can cause aching in the distributor until the moisture dry's up.

Good luck and keep up the great work.;)
