I have a 1999 Sierra 5.3 L with about 140K miles. Would it be worth using synthetic oil or oil for older/higher mileage vehicles? Which brand filter is best when changing your own oil?

I use Walmart Supertech full synthetic oil and an AC Delco filter on my 98 5.7. I think pretty much all oils are adequate for use in my truck, just a personal preference combined with the minimal additional cost for the full synthetic. But I'd never use any other brand of oil filter other than AC Delco.

i run mobil 1 fully synthetic oil and mobil 1 filter. i noticed a big difference when i switched from conventional oil and the mobil 1 synthetic lasts way longer. i also ure it in my race 4-wheeler and camaro.

Mobil 1 and the Mobil 1 filter....
gotta be a reason GM recommends it in all Corvettes:p

I have been using Fram for oil filters and what ever is on special on oil and the recommended weight which is 5W30 for my jimmy every 3000 miles, and every second oil change i add a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil to the engine oil about 500 miles before i change it to ensure i get all the sludge and carbon build out of the engine.
1999 GMC TRUCKS SIERRA 1500 PICKUP 5.3L 8-cyl Engine Code [T]
All TEMPS......5W-30 Engine, with filter..........5.7 liters, After refill check oil level.

Full synthetic is your best bet, synthetic oil doesnt break down like regular oil or cause engine sludge so it wont matter if you go over your change interval and actually you can go twice as long before ghanging it but you should change your filter at regular intervals 5000kms.
I use Mobil 1 in everything I own well worth it 10000kms oil changes with 336000+kms on my 98 5.0L combustion chambers are practically clean as new.
K&N filters or purolator
Dont waste your money on synthetic blended oils!!!!
