The newest engine as possible into a 1996 gmc sierra?

Whats the newest engine i can put into a 1996 gmc sierra? regular cab. it had a v8.

The factory was a vortec 350. Based off the old style small block, with the exception of a new head design. you can buy a brand new crate motor to go back in. You can put a gen-3 in it, but you have to modify everything.

You could put the 350 (5.7L) vortex engine in ,you might already had the engine in there or did you have the 305 (5.0L)engine ,both are V-8 engine's.

Your engine is in the 1996 to 2002 family engine, any other years and your going to have to replace other parts or modify. As long as the engine displacement is the same as your going to replace it with, your not going to have to modify any software to your ECM. Good luck and keep us posted.
