I have a GMC 4.3 liter v6 high mileage 168000 , the engine a ticking sound like a lifter not pumping up , it not loud but you can hear it if you open the hood , some one said it in normal for high millage 4.3 does anyone know what it could be ? the engine runs good no smoke , good power ... I'm going to runner till she blows !

Depends what year jimmy and engine set up is had ticking noise from loud fuel injectors. The TBS was quiet and the Central Port injection system was loud, and the 1996 and newer was quiet again with the CPI and MFI system.

If its a lifter you think is making the noise, run a bottle of http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/ in your engine and see if it will clear up the lifter noise from carbon build up and sludge in your engine.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

Hi dHackens, I'm a newbie, I also have a ticking sound, sounds like a loose rocker on front passenger side. Take a broom stick while engine is running and very carefully press on the tensioner assembly loosening the tension of the belt, not to much cause the belt can come off, and you will see the ticking will start to fade away. Or just take your belt off and start the engine, no ticking, you have a bad belt tensioner assembly.
At least that is what is wrong with mine, and your symptoms are identical to mine. Try it and then post your findings. Good luck.
