To Late For Synthetic Oil

I have a 2003 Sonoma with 21500 miles and am sure it's always had regular dino oil in it, is it to late in it's life to switch to a full synthetic.
 
They say that you shouldn't mix regular motor oil and synthetic, or flop back and forth from oil change to oil change from one to the other either.

But

You can however switch from regular oil to synthetic as long as you keep on using synthetic from now on. Doing so will help reduce the amount of regular oil still left in the oil galleys etc, and eventually you motor will have 99.99% synthetic oil in it.

Keep in mind:

Synthetic oil should be replaced at the same interval rate (3000-5000 miles). DON'T BE FOOLED that if you now put synthetic oil, you can reduce the interval rate to (10,000-15,000 miles). THAT IS STUPIDITY.

The filters must be changed at the regular rate (3000-5000 miles) anyway.

There are synthetic blends and full synthetic oils out there.

In my opinion, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The name says it all; SYNTHETIC = unoriginal / altered / fake. I think synthetic is a waste of $$$, but that's just me.

I have A 2010 gmc sierra SLE 5.3L, Is Mobil One OK to use the truck has 33.800 miles on it,up to now the dealer has been putting the standard GM oil in it 5-30 not synthetic?..Thanks for any Help!
 
Who is "they"?

I have went back and forth between synthetics and regular oils without one problem. This is on new and used cars, trucks, lawn equipment and motorcycles.

You will not have a problem as long as the oil is of the weight/viscosity that is meant for the vehicle. At lest I never have, nor have any of my friends/family.


Right now, all I use is Rotella T white bottle dino oil. In EVERYTHING I own. For years now. Over 144k on my Turbo Gas VW Jetta. On all my lawn care equipment. And, I just sent some Rotella T to be analyzed by Blackstone Labs from my last trip to California on my motorcycle. 5140 miles, they said it was in excellet shape and I could extend the change interval to 7000 miles if I wanted. I won't, but it's nice to know I could and be safe.

On dino oil.

I've tested synthetics on my motorcycles and gone back and forth with them. Some bikes love it, some hate it. I've never had an issue going back and forth. It's never too late to switch to synthetic. It'll prolong the life of your vehicle IMO. Just know synthetics will have a tendency to leak more so if you have oil leaks, grab a rag and start wiping? :-)

I have experienced the same phenomenon. When I switched to synthetic on one of my bikes, it started leaking. Don't know why.

I also agree that increasing the oil change interval because you're running synthetic doesn't make sense. You change oil not because the oil wears out, but because the additive package becomes depleted. Think of what happens when your dishwater has washed too many dishes and no longer makes any bubbles. The detergent is depleted. The same thing happens to engine oil. Whether the oil is natural or synthetic doesn't affect how dirty it becomes.
