I recently purchased this vehicle (3.73 ratio) with the understanding that the towing capacity was 13000 lbs. as listed in the official GMC brochure. My owners manual rates the vehicle at 9300 lbs. Anyone know the truth? I find it amazing that the official brochure could be incorrect on this important item!!! Thanks in advance.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Using your provided info of 9300 I assume a 2 wheel drive pu?

9300 lbs is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of the Truck. The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable total weight of the vehicle when loaded - i.e including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers, and cargo including the tongue weight of any trailer.

13,000 is the maximum allowable weight that a vehicle can tow. In other words the trailer cannot weigh more than 13,000 lbs with all contents etc.

Again assuming a 2 wheel drive pulling conventional trailer. 5th wheel trailer values are higher as are GVWR of 4 wheel drive vehicles.

Note - It is generally recommended you stay within 90% of these values to leave a safety margin rather that pushing to the limits so as to have no extra capacity should the need arise.
