So I have a towing dilemma, I currently have a 2011 GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab with the 5.3, towing package and 3.08 rear end. We've just bought a 29ft travel trailer with a dry weight of just under 6000lbs. max capacity of 7710lbs. If im reading my manual correctly my max is 6600 with the 3.08.

My question is- should I change out the gears to 3.73 at a cost of 1500-2000 and will that be sufficient, anything else i would need to do?? Or should i upgrade to a 3/4 ton??
I forrgot to add that its 4wd and we live at 6200ft, most of the towing would be in the mountains, over passes etc...

I could be wrong, but isn't the max tow weight the weight of the trailer, it's cargo, the truck's passengers and all of their stuff?

what is the max tow capacity for your truck with 4.10 gears? that's the lowest gear ratio I would go with.... and I would even consider the 4.56.

Picking up my new 2014 GMC 2500 Duramax in a few, shouldn't have issues towing now!!

I'm pretty sure You won't regret the 3/4T with the Duramax.Congratulations on Your new P/U.
