So I got my check engine light read and P0785 came up reason my downshift solenoid is bad or the circuit controlling it is.

How much work is involved in fixing both those an how much will it cost? Is it worth repairing in a over 200k mileage beater car? Any tips would be appreciated.

My car is a 2000 gmc Jimmy 4x4 2door for reference.

Simple replacement part once you drop the transmission pan, but before you get your hands dirty. Inspect the wire harness clips on the passenger side of the transmission, clean and look for any signs of damage like corroded pins and if that is all in good working condition. Then have the solenoid replaced at the transmission shop.

To replace the solenoid is an extra 5 to 10 min depending on the technician when replacing the transmission oil and filter and will cost an extra $45.00 for the parts. http://www.pdqparts.com/content/pdf/CUA0102-1.pdf

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

How much should I be paying to have my tranny fluid and filter changed for this type of car? (it's my first automatic heh)

Average is $100.00 plus the parts needed and the extra time to replace the solenoid. This should not cost more then $175.00, $200.00 the most if there are any complications.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)
