I have a 1994 Jimmy SLT with approximately 186k on it, 4.3. Of late, I have been having transmission problems. It shifts fine and all, but its more a problem with leaks. It has been regularly serviced by a professional shop, but the last couple times it has been done at home (would have had to have it towed otherwise).
A couple weeks ago, replaced the pan gasket and changed filter due to the old gasket having deteriorated, allowing fluid to slop out onto the exhaust. It was last serviced in 2003, but sit a good bit in between then and now. A week later, same issue. Leaking again. Found that the gasket that was put on was over-torqued, pushing the gasket out. Replaced gasket again (uncle did this, rubber gasket this time) with careful attention to the amount of torque used to put bolts back in. First day was okay, but its leaking AGAIN and it seems like its only when under stress (such as climbing a mountain) or at higher speeds (such as on interstate). This is annoying as I work second shift and would like to know I can rely on it to get me back home.
Not sure what is going on, but I am a cat's hair away from taking it to the scrap heap. Had some issues with it since April/May of this year and it just seems like this vehicle does not like me anymore. Wanted to get some input as to what might be wrong before calling the transmission shop or calling the junk yard. Still a lot of life left in it and would hate to scrap it prematurely, but Im at wit's end. Thanks in advance!
