I want to turbocharge my 2003 sonoma because it is a 4 cylinder and i want to eventually lift it. My only concern is blowing the engine. If anyone has any advice or just better ways to get more horsepower out of my truck please let me know.

You can keep it simple and swap out the 2.2 engine with a 4.8 or 5.3 vortec with the ECM also. The 4.8 are the most common and least expensive since everyone is looking for the 5.3 and larger displacement, but a 4.8 with a good cam swap and ECM tuned can surprise even the 6.0 vortec with it's short stroke and balanced crankshaft can make the engine a hight RPM screamer.

You can turbo the 2.2, but your going to have keep on top of the maintenance to ensure your engine will not have any issues. Also there is also the ECM program to make sure you have enough fuel going in to engine to keep it from burning out and your going to have to use 91 of not higher octane to ensure there is no detonation under extreme boost.

Just do your home work and don't buy and turbo kit from Ebay or your going to be looking for another engine, so for dollar for dollar, the 4.8 swap would be cheaper to do. Engine mount, exhaust manifold, electric fan kit and engine ECM and wire harness swap. Oh and your transmission of it's an automatic, you already have the 4l60E transmission so you really all need to do is swap out the servo with corvette servo and install a 0.490"boost valve.

Keep me posted and be glad to get more in depth to which ever way you want to go as to turbo or engine swap. I do see lots of 4.8 vortec at salvage yards for $500.00 or an old better with good drive train for $500.00 also to do a clean swap.

Thanks a lot for the reply!!! That is what i thought i was going to have to do but my only concern is that my truck is a 5-speed manual and i wasnt sure what was going to have to go into the transmission in order to avoid problems. Thanks
