Two brake lights out when headlights on

The two rear brake lights work fine until you put on the headlights. Then they do not light up.
The roof brake light functions correctly all the time.
Any suggestions?

Wiring harness needed to be changed. Ground wire seemed to be compromised. Online prices for this is about $25-35.00. Gmc prices almost $100.00. Figure 1/2 hour per side.
 
Wiring Harness Dilema

Thanks, Ron. I believe you had the same problem I have and I purchased a wiring harness. However, the pigtail is too short on the wiring harness that I purchased and I purchased it for my 1997 GMC Savannah van. When I pulled the wires out from the rubber seal they are much longer than the replacement harness. Could this be because I have a conversion van and this was changed? Not sure where to go from here...help!
