I just wanted to know if I have to heat up the drive shaft on a 2006 sierra to get the "plastic" out to change my u-joints.

It helps and don't hammer out the U joint from the drive shaft. Use and press or a the right tools needed. If you don't have one, pick up a rental one from the parts store like Auto Zonr or Parts Source. http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/ujointtool/index.asp

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

The reason I ask is I tried doing them on an 2002 s10, and even with a press I couldnt get them out. I had to take the drive shaft to a friend with a torch and he should me the platic pin they use to hold them in. Just wondered if I was going to have to torch these out for sure. Cause I have a press/right tool.

To play safe yes, torch them out. All you have to do is get the plastic glue used soft enough that it looses it's hold and the caps can move. Just be careful when torching the ends of the U Joints, the caps can explode off the ends.

Keep us posted. ;)
