So I just bought a new 2012 GMC Sierra - Z71.
I have the bench seat in the front, so my console under the seat has just a power port. My USB port is located on the dashboard below the radio.

here is my dilema:

1. I have an IPod that i keep in the truck all the time.

2. The IPod is plugged in to the port, but i have a long cord attached to it so I can store the IPod in the top glove compartment.

3. The reason for putting it in the glovebox is so that passers by dont see it and decide to break my window to steal it.

4. The stupid cord still gives away that i have it plugged in.

Has anyone added another port to the under the seat console? or perhaps found a way to move the current one to the glovebox?

I hate this setup, GMC were not thinking to well when they came up with this to say the least...if you have bucket seats, the USB port is in the console, hidden away for no one to see...why not in the bench seat?

Anyone?

Just got my 2012 Z-71 also and was thinking the same thing! Let me know if you figure anything out.

you can change the cable at the back of the radio ,i bought one from a company called OEM radios . i bought an up level radio for my w/t that just had an am/fm . you can put the cable where ever you want

I transfer all my mp3 from payer to a $4 memory "stick". No great loss if stolen, and I will usually just pull it and place it in the cup holder when 2012 sierra is unoccupied. Easier than wiring in another USB. But I imagine radio shack would have all you need to do it.

Maybe it wasn't clear to many. It wasn't to me initially. The older radios needed you to plug in a PLAYER, like an iPod. The 2012 just needs a storage device. You can access folders from the radio's buttons and knobs
