I bought a 2005 sierra about 4 months ago. I have changed the oil since I bought it. I was just told by a Goodyear shop that my engine oil is a quart low; which does not make sense. There are no leaks that I can see and it doesn't seem to be burning any oil. He then told me that it is perfectly normal for all types of cars to "lose" up to a quart of oil between changes. I have never experienced this before and I have never heard it from anyone else. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Yes that is correct, the way the new engines are made now. They are high tolerance engines, when the engine is cold such as the pistons and other internal parts. The tolerance between the moving parts a high till they heat up to operating temperature, that is why GM is famous for there piston slap at start ups. During this time is when your loose some oil through the blow by from the combustion chamber. Next time you start engine and start to drive, you'll notice a blueish colour to your exhaust till the engine reaches the operating temperature. This is where your loose of oil is coming from, you can warm up the engine first before you start to drive and this will buy you more life to your engine. Hope this explains as simple as i can get without getting to technical.
