Will adding an cold air intake on this 4.3c truck add some horsepower to it. Also how do you change the gear ratios and is that the smart thing to do or will it mess up? if not how do you change them thanks. just got this truck for christmas god bless for any help

Remove the throttle blade restriction plate. Basically, the throttle blade is a plate that has a 1/2 moon looking lip on one side of it.
Removing it creates more air into the engine causing more HP. I noticed a difference, which is impressive. GM installed these baffles to help low end throttle response, I'm not sure if they affect gas mileage one way or another. As for my gas mileage, I'll let you know after a couple of tanks. I did however come up with a VERY easy method for this modification. I would STRONGLY suggest not touching ANY of the existing rivets or holes in the plate and the "baffle" as I refer to it. My simple directions are this...
1) Remove the throttle plate as listed above, doing it on the engine is no problem, (don't need to remove throttle body)just don't drop crap in the intake.
2) MAKE NO MODIFICATION TO THE THROTTLE PLATE ITSELF WHATSOEVER. Take a pair of good sharp tin snips (I used red handles instead of green or yellow) and simply cut the baffle close to the edge of the throttle plate from one end to the next.
3) Use a grinder with a SANDING DISK, NOT A GRINDING WHEEL to slowly and gently knock the remaining lip of the baffle down flat. That's it put it back together.

No idle issues, no holes to drill or fill, no rivets, no check engine lights.
You can also removed the honeycomb screen in front of the MAF, remove the MAF from the intake tube and place it on a table screen side down. With a flat screw driver and hammer, place the screw driver through the MAF on the screen not to touch the filament and tap the screw driver working your way around till the screen falls out. Reinstall and open up the front of the air box by the radiator support.

With these three things, you will notice a large improvement and it's free to do. Just your time. As for the transmission, replace the boost valve and shift servo's with the one's used in the corvettes 4L60E transmission. That should cost around $100.00 for the part and can be done in 15 min the same time you have the transmission serviced. Hope this helps you get started.

You can also get an aftermarket MAF(Granatelli), Headers (JBL) are an option as well as a cat back exhaust. K&N Intake and finally a chip (JET stage 2) to take advantage of the previously mentioned mods. I have done all of the above and the most noticeable difference is in throttle response off idle.
