I just checked the trans fluid as I do every month or so.
I don't drive this jimmy very often, and the last time checked all was fine.
But now it obviously has water in it. The fluid is is discolored and WAY over the fill limit.
Trans is still working perfect, surprising with all that water in it.
So I need a new radiator right, easy job no problem.

Question is,
I dont drive jimmy hardly at all.
If it use radiator sealer in it, I am afraid it will get in the trans and mess it up. $$$
What are your thoughts.
4saken, thanks, i didnt think about clutch swelling in h2o.
I was just gonna change the fluid a couple times to get rid of the water after fixing the problem.
I have never understood why in 50 years they dont provide for maint on your auto trans. Just crazy !! All we need is just a couple wee little drain plugs.
Just glad we don`t have to remove the oil pan from the to change the eng oil.
A drain and external filter ,is that too much expect after 60 years of auto transmissions ?
Oop`s , I realise it is too much to ask,as the decided to put the fuel pumps " in" the fuel tanks. Another great idea!

Most likely culprit would be the radiator. Coolant overtime becomes acidic and will start to eat away at internal parts. That's why it has to be changed every 2 years. Sounds like the coolant ate through the trans cooler inside the radiator and is mixing with the fluid.

Your going to have to flush the transmission and then replace the transmission filter. Also a good thing to replace the EPC valve screen and the Boost valve 0.490" stock is i think 0.470". I don't recommend having the transmission flushed, but the coolant is corrosive to the internal bearings in the transmission and will cause clutch packs to delaminate and thus cost you a rebuild! Trans fluid eats radiator hoses! If you find any sign of cross contamination, fix the problem and thoroughly flush both systems IMMEDIATELY.

As for an external transmission oil filter, you can buy a remote transmission oil filter made from B&M for around $35.00. It connects to your transmission line to the radiator and works like a charm, but you still have to drop the oil pan to service the transmission to replace the boost valve every 45,000 to 60,000 miles to ensure your transmission line pressure is where it should be. http://www.vichubbard.com/auto-part-detail/bm-products-80277-remote-transmission-filter-kit.html

Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with a 0.490" 0.500" boost valve (easy fix in pan). 0.500" valve was to hard of a shift for my Jimmy LOL, had to replace the transmission mount
