I thought the C2500 represents the 3/4 ton Suburban but, I see R2500 advertised and they look just like my old 86'. Does it have to do with model year change?

No, I meant the R. I saw an dealer ad, which I tried to link here with no success, offering an R2500 Suburban. It looked just like a Suburban. Wasn't a pickup with a topper.
Maybe the dealer didn't know what he was talking about. Do a traderonline.com search for GMC Suburban, model year 86-96, any state. It'll pop up.
