What is the best size of Tires for my GMC Envoy?

I am having different opinions from different people. My current size is 255 with diameter 17. Most people want me to go more wider. Just to add, I am living in a warm climate where temperature reaches more than 50 degrees in Summer.
Also, what is the credibility of Cooper Tires, I was going for Michelin but Michelin as well as Michelin are not available in this size here

I would go with one size wider than original equipment. You don't want to go any wider on stock rims since the tires will wear uneven. Cooper tires are excellent tires - made in USA. I have them on my daughter's car going on 4 years without a problem.
