Depends on which trim, here are the payload capacities for both 2000 GMC 2500 Ext Cab (3rd Door) 2WD Short Beds:
SL - 2457 lbs
SLE - 2436 lbs
And that 3/4 ton answer is the capacity directly above the rear axle, not the entire bed.
