I have a 1995 GMC K1500 (4x4) with a 5.7 v8. My transmission has gone out. It only has reverse so from what little I know and could find out, it seems to have broken the low planetary. I can find 4l60e transmissions all over the place, but I know there are many different versions. I need to know what year trucks will fit and work in mine and if the only difference in the tranny for the extended cab 2 door truck and a regular cab truck is the tail plate (which is what I have been told by the guy at the junk yard trying to sell me a tranny so I am hesitant to believe him). Errrr. Help? Anyone? Please....

In the GM parts catalog, that is a one year part number only. 1995. But it doesn't specify why. It could be had for a reasonable price.

An online search on a used auto parts locator shows one 2000 vehicle and a bunch of 1995 vehicles. In my experience, these used part conversions are not always reliable. This would be a "buyer beware" in converting the used part to fit your vehicle, and you may find it won't work at all after all your hard work.

Dude you have basically a Chevy Short Block in there I would not worry too teribbly much about which transmissions would fit. That's just my guess though. If you really wanted to know the specifics I would say take the transmission out and find out. i'm guessing if you want to do the job you have tools and an engine hoist?
