When it comes to putting a new radio in your 2006 GMC Envoy, it's totally doable and a great way to get modern features like Bluetooth. The most common way to do it is to replace the whole head unit. You can find some good options, even touchscreens with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, for around $100 to $300. You'll want to get a "double-DIN" unit since your Envoy has a larger radio opening.

The main thing to know is that it's not a simple plug-and-play situation. The factory warning chimes are actually built into the stock radio, so you'll need a special wiring harness adapter to keep those chimes and get a switched power source for the new stereo. If you don't use the right adapter, you'll lose those chimes, and some companies won't even give you technical support if you run into problems.

You'll also need a dash kit to make the new radio fit perfectly in the opening. The good news is that these kits and the wiring harnesses are pretty easy to find online from places like Crutchfield, Sonic Electronix, or even auto parts stores. Some online retailers will even offer a discount on the installation parts when you buy the stereo from them.

One last thing to remember, if you want to keep your steering wheel audio controls, you'll need another adapter specifically for that. Brands like PAC and Axxess make them, and they let you keep using the buttons on your steering wheel with the new radio.
