will a 2.2 litre engine work in a 1996 gmc jimmy?

will a 2.2 litre gmc engine work in a 96 gmc jimmy it is a 4x4 but i dont like it and want to change to 2 wheel drive and wonder if the 2.2 will work in it with a few changes if so what changes will i need to make the motor is out of a 2000 sonoma king cab
its for the wife she dont want nothing strong or fast just a regular drive if you know what i mean

thats a small engine, if you were gonna turn it to a 2wd i would at least but a better engine in it like a 4.0 or something along there cause the engine you said just sounds weak.
