I drive a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 5.3 L. We had a big snow here so I was driving it in auto 4WD and all was fine. After a brief stop the Auto 4WD stopped working. Tried 4 high and there was a horrible clunking noise. Put it up on blocks and front drive shaft seems to engage fine but after some horrible clunking only the drivers side front wheel turns. I replaced the actuator (which was horrible because it was seized and broke off in the housing) but that didn't fix it. I also changed the front differential oil because it was pretty dirty. I am a bit stumped because if the front drive shaft is turning it seems to me the transfer case is working OK so I assumed actuator but that didn't help. I am far from a mechanic but does that mean something in the axle? Any suggestions on where to look next would be much appreciated.
