I've never had a problem like this with any of my previous vehicles.

Is this an intentional design feature - to FORCE me to use outside air under some conditions?

When it's "chilly" outside (this is in FLORIDA), let's say 50 degrees and I have my inside air set at ~70 or higher, it does not permit me to use inside air. I can look down and see that it's turned itself OFF. When I realize this and press it to reactive it, it blinks a few times and STAYS off.

When I'm behind some crappy running vehicle at a stop light I don't want to be FORCED to breathe their offensive exhaust fumes.

Am I missing something here!!! If this is the way it's intended to be they can forget me being a repeat customer!

I have the same exact concern. I have a 2010 Acadia and when I push the button, it blinks and turns off. I'm not sure if it ever stays on. It's been done time since I can recall that it stayed on after pushing the button. I live in Philadelphia, is this related to how cold it is outside?

Hello Gatrnol,

I apologize that you are having a concern with your A/C in your vehicle. Have you had a chance to take your vehicle into the dealership to see if this is operating as designed? If you would like any assistance in setting up an appointment or working with the dealership, please feel free to let me know and I would be more than happy to assist you. You can reach out to me via private message if you would like to further discuss your concern.

Thanks for the offer of assistance, but what would really be handy is knowing (from you) if what I am experiencing represents the normal functioning of the A/C system.

I'd rather not set up a maintenance visit if all is working as it (supposedly) should.

Gregory... nothing else from you?

I'd like to know IF this is how the vehicle is designed to function, and if so... WHY !!!

Thanks

Hello Gatrnol,

I apologize that I did not see your previous post. Unfortunately I am not an engineer or a technician so I would not be able to tell you if it is operating as designed. The technicians at the dealership would be able to determine this for you. I can try and reach out to an internal resource to see if they have any information that they can provide. Could you private message me with your VIN so I can reach out to them?

It's '13 Acadia Denali. No need for a VIN, I trust they're all made the same (w/regard to this functionality).

I'd be most appreciative if you could reach out to someone "in the know" though.

From that individual, if you could, I'd like to hear if this is an intentional feature, and if so, why.

Thanks!

I don't know if this is the issue you are talking about, but my manual says the following: "Recirculation mode cannot be used with floor, defog or defrost modes. If recirculation is selected with one of those modes, the indicator light flashes three times and then turns off." My manual is a 2012 Sierra, so not sure if it is the same, but sounds like what is being described.

Well, the light does blink (in those certain temperature dependent circumstances) - but I never use floor/defog/defrost. I use front vents (AC)...

hmmm

(thanks though!)

Hello Gatrnol,

I will reach out to them without a VIN and provide you with what they respond back to me with. They may not be able to provide me with this information and tell me that a diagnosis at the GMC dealership would be needed. A response from them may take 24 to 48 business hours for them to get back to me, but I will be sure to update you when I have the information. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Hello Gatrnol,

I received a response from my internal resource today regarding the operation of the A/C system. Here is what they stated:

“The recirculation mode cannot be used with floor, defrost, or defogging modes per page 8-3 in vehicle owner’s manual- please read this for an explanation of why the system operates this way.”

Here is what page 8-3 states regarding this:

“The recirculation mode cannot be used with floor, defrost, or defogging modes. If recirculation is selected in these modes, the indicator flashes three times and turns off. The air conditioning also comes on when this mode is activated unless the outside air temperature is less than 4°C (40°F). While in recirculation mode the windows can fog when the weather is cold and damp. To clear the fog, select either the defog or defrost mode and increase the fan speed.”

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to private message me if you have any further questions.

Hi Gregory & Mogleybear, I think the issue I'm having must be what the manual says. But by default, my auto button always turn on floor, and defog all the time. This is winter in Philly so maybe auto is always turning those on to compensate for the weather. But it kills me when I get behind a truck with horrible exhaust and don't know how to get recirculation on!!

Hello UI-Philly-Guy,

I am sorry that your auto is turning on to compensate for the weather. If you are worried that your vehicle isn’t operating correctly, I would be more than happy to assist you in setting up an appointment with a dealership if you would like. Please feel free to private message with your name, contact info, VIN, mileage, and dealership you would like to work with.
