Has anyone had a problem with frame rust on 2014 Sierra / Silverado's? I noticed the black wax coating is failing on my 2014 Sierra with the Carbon 22 package. This is nearly a $50K sticker for a new truck and I would expect far better than less than 10K miles before I see substantial frame rust. I've started looking at other GM trucks and have noticed the same thing, even on a new one sitting on the dealer's lot before being sold. I don't understand it, both my 2011 Impala and 2007 Saturn Vue with 100K and 70K miles look far better underneath than my new truck! After doing some initial research, it looks like GM decided to use a wax coating instead of paint or powder coating. I've started taking pictures of my truck along with others I find to document this. I plan on talking to my dealer about this at the next oil change but this is extremely disappointing. I bought this new truck after reading a GM press release stating how "rust resistant" the 2014 pickups are after a complete redesign. Sounds like someone forgot to include the frame coating in that redesign process! Everyone knows that once rust starts, it's extremely difficult to stop. I wonder how long before the frame or components connected to it suffer a complete failure??

It seems odd indeed that such a new truck would already have rust problems .
I assume your truck is still under warranty, so you should be able to pressure the dealer or GM into fixing the problem. Treating rust on the underbody of my 2000 GMC Sierra is my own responsibility , however. "LPS 3" spray seems to leave a thick waxy coating , and it's my current choice for frame treatment.
I do first have to clean off road dirt and any loose rust, scrub it with detergent and water, wash it off, and let it dry for 2 days before using the LPS 3.
It's odd that my thin steel body panels have no rust at all, but the thick steel frame rails are flaking apart. ( As did my brake and fuel lines, which had to be replaced.) I suspect that the body panels are galvanized, but nothing else was.

That's weird. Your truck is too new to have rust problems. Where do you live by the way? Maybe it's because of road salt.
