I have a 99 Jimmy and I've been having some rather serious issues with the brakes. I got the Jimmy off my brother because he didn't drive it and it was cheap. He told me the brakes were gone and boy was he right. I'm no mechanic but I've done quite a few brake jobs. The brake pedal had zero pressure and the brake warning light was on on the dash. I knew the problem was in the rear end. I took off the passenger side rear wheel and inspected the brakes. They appeared fine and the pads looked like they were in good shape. So I take off the driver side back wheel and I was shocked. Both pads were missing and it was just the caliper and a thrashed rotor. Knowing this thing needed some serious work I took it to my mechanic. He replaced both rear rotors, both rear calipers, both rear sliding pin brackets, and put new pads on both (of course). He bled the whole system and the brakes worked fine afterwards. But about a month later I noticed a squealing sound coming from my rear end when I apply my brakes. I thought the new setup needed to be broke in so I ignored it for a while. But the squealing only got worse. After driving home from work I got out and felt the passenger side back wheel. (The one that wasn't thrashed before the brake job) and it was warm. Which is to be expected. But I went over to the wheel that blew the brakes apart and touched that rim. It was very hot to the touch. Much hotter than the passenger side. I looked through the rim and the rotor appears to have grooves in it. It's only been 2 months since the job so the pads have not worn out. Since my driver side back wheel is the one burning up again, I'm assuming the problem is on the passenger side. Has anyone had any issues similar to this? What should I look for? Any help is appreciated.

Weird as hell. Somehow your lines are applying pressure unevenly from one side to the other?... And you bled the whole system including the ABS unit?... My troubleshooting from there goes to replCing the lines themselves Nd if thats not it then maybe the brake caliper is faulty.

I would look for a sticking parking brake cable that is not releasing.

My Jimmy is older than yours but I can reflect back to all you are saying. The brakes on my Jimmy have been one of the biggest problems throughout my ownership.
The hot rotor and grooves point to the brakes being on all the time. This is strange with new units which you can check. But if your brother had a problem before you bought it, there can be a problem in the old hard ware or lines that was over looked. Look especially for a pinched line.
WHen we were changed from the old style brake linings to ceramic, my brakes squeeked whenever applied, and this is normal for ceramic, even though it drives you crazy. mechanic says they should not squeel but have everytime the linings have been changed. After they are broke in, and I mean months, it will quiet down a bit.
My GMC motorhome just had an issue with a front brake piston being stuck so the pads were on the rotor all the time. The fix was replacement.
It is strange since it all was working after you had the work done. Was the car sitting for a long time after the work? Look for rust, dirt, debri on the piston or mechanicals.
I have several vehicals so there is a lot of down time and the brakes are not fond of not being used, I have stories..............

One other thought that came to mind, goes back to when I had the brakes replaced. drove fine for about a week then I was getting sqeeking and such. Turned out a clip or pin come undone and the brake was just hanging in there. Very unusual for that part to fail.

Good luck.
