I had a bad drive shaft, bad universals, and a bad slip yoke. 560 bucks to have a shaft made and replace the yoke. The guy who made the shaft tells me I shouldn't put the new shaft in untill I replace the bushing and seal on the transfer case (to make sure I don't ruin the new shaft). When the vehicle is in neutral there is no play in the output shaft of the transfer case. So here is the question, has any one ever pulled this bushing without dropping the transfer case? The chevy dealership and the local AAmco say it has to be dropped. A tranny guy down the road says he can do it with out dropping the case. He has a tool (I have seen it, it looks like a cross between a e-z out and a gear puller)that can pull it. Tonight I am going to remove the seal and take a look inside and see who is right. any input would be great THANKS!!! Oh yeah, aamco and the dealer say about 400 bucks the guy down the road, 100, the damn bushing is 7 dollars from the dealer

not a big deal to change it at all. No need to remove the t-case. Let the guy down the road do it for you sounds like he knows what to do and wants to make a honest buck.

I got the parts from the dealer, this bushing look like it is made of alluminum and has two groves or chanels on the inside. Is this the right part? I thought it would be a little more than this.

OH Well, checked the fluid the other day after a noise developed at 60MPH. Only got 3 ounces of fluid and bits of metal. I filled it up just to get me through the week and it's probaly empty again. So it looks like the case will be getting replaced. I found one for 500 at a bone yard and its going in this weekend.I am pretty impressed, it never showed signs of leakage in the 5 years I owned the truck so I think I put 90 thousand miles on an empty transfer case. Lesson learned... CHECK ALL YOUR FLUIDS when you but a used vehicle.

got the transfer case and drive shaft in a few weeks ago, all I can say is WOW what a difference. Now it drives like a 40K dollar vehicle should drive.
